MELKSHAM villages are celebrating after achieving great results in the first round of Wiltshire’s Best Kept Village competition, with Seend progressing to the next round and awarded ‘Best Newcomer’.
The 2018 Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) Wiltshire and The Hills Group Best Kept Village Competition is designed to foster pride in our beautiful countryside and is open to every village in Wiltshire to participate.
Judging is based on a written submission and a site visit that focuses primarily on communal buildings and public areas such as village greens, footpaths, car parks, noticeboards, bus shelters etc.
The judges will be looking for evidence of a vibrant village which puts time and effort into its clubs and organisations and keeps litter and general untidiness to a minimum.
This year, Seend came top of their category, Kennet best kept medium village, progressing through to the final round where they will take on Edington, Biddestone and Hindon to be crowned the county’s best kept village.
In the West Wiltshire best kept large village category, Bowerhill came joint second with Bratton unfortunately missing out on a spot in the final judging.
In the West Wiltshire best kept medium village category Berryfields scored 4th place. The final county results will be revealed after the final judging in July.
