The performance of Matilda Jr at Melksham Oak Community School has been hailed as ‘a magical success’.
50 students took part in the performance which was a sell out for three nights.
Associate assistant principal Laura Rossiter said, “The performance of Matilda Jr was a magical success. With 50 performers on stage ranging from year 7-13 it was a truly whole school musical, celebrating the creativity and flair of the students and staff alike.
“We could not be prouder of the cast and crew for putting on such a celebratory event. The sell-out show ran for three nights and received fantastic reviews for the commitment, characterisation and fun-loving nature of the show.
“Matilda was played by year seven Leah Chandler and Mrs Trunchbull played by a year 12 Lewis Henley-Francis, who were leading the way with a whole host of performers who completely stole the audiences’ hearts and imaginations.
“Students had been rehearsing since September for the show and all their hard work and support from the staff at Melksham Oak Community School ensured they were ready and confident to tread the boards for the first time for the majority of the cast.
“The evening performances were preluded with a matinee for the local primaries and was attended by over 200 year five and year six pupils, further endorsing the community connection and celebrating the wholesome nature of the show. The first whole school musical in five years was a blinding success and leads us well and truly to the next series of creative and performing arts events.”
