Christmas festivities quite faded away in the cold light of northern Norway as members of Shaw and Whitley WI listened and watched Theo Stenings’ enthralling presentation of the land of the Norseman.
The journey started from Oslo in the south, along the coast past colourful fishing villages to Trondheim with its magnificent cathedral. The journey continued on to the far north and beyond the Arctic Circle to the indigenous Laplanders and the reindeer herds.
History, folklore and wild life were all intertwined with language, architecture and beautiful seascapes. It was an interesting and educational talk which was enjoyed by all.
Members are looking forward to their annual dinner which will be held at the Shaw Country Hotel.
Irene Roberts reported, “A full and varied programme has been drawn up for 2015; why not come long and join us on the second Monday of the month at 7.30pm at The Beeches, Shaw? The February meeting will feature a local speaker who will be giving an illustrated talk on the history of Lacock Abbey.”
