At our May meeting we discussed the resolution going forward to the National W.I. as the campaign for 2018/19; Mental Health Matters.
We were encouraged to talk about mental health, to bring it to the fore. We talked about what more the W.I. could add to this campaign. We rounded off the evening with a fun game of bingo, with lots of chat, tea and coffee.
In June we have Cathy Berry returning, from Melksham Historical Association, talking about old Melksham. Guests are welcome for the evening so if you would like to know more about Melksham and surrounding villages in days gone by or just reminisce, join us on Monday 11th June at Shaw Village Hall 7.30pm. It will only cost you a £1.
We will be selling cakes at Shaw Village Fete on Saturday 9th June so come along and say hello.
April Report
At our April meeting Vivienne Penny told us about her time as a guide at the British Embassy residence in Washington. It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens to resemble an English country manor.
Originally it was next to fields; the picture of it new and the picture of it now, what a difference. The embassy has now grown and additional offices have been built on the fields. The gardens are still beautiful and many garden parties are held there. We were shown pictures of the inside and learnt how each ambassador adds their own personal touches, with artwork etc. It was a very interesting and informative talk.
Later in the month 12 members went to the theatre royal in Bath to see Quartet which we all enjoyed.
