The meeting was opened by Sylvia, our president, who welcomed us all including three visitors. The minutes were read and signed.
The business part of the meeting then followed. The meal at Shaw Country Hotel will be on 15th January; menus were passed round. Sylvia then gave a full and interesting report from the Salisbury AGM where the guest speaker was Mandy Hicks, a former tornado pilot who showed a film and gave a excellent talk which received a standing ovation – a great day out for all.
Future events; Neston W.I. Carol service – six members are going to attend, we will be singing at Mavern House on the 5th December, and there will be flower arranging on the 14th December at the Reading Rooms. There will be lots more on offer in the new year.
We were then introduced to Margaret Hiscocks (Wiltshire Scrap Store) which started in a garage in Devizes and now is based in Bowden Hill. The talk was very enlightening, nothing goes to waste and they seem to make use of anything. She brought all sorts to show us, and we then made a Christmas card doing iris folding. This was a challenge, but most seemed to master it and completed the card. We finished with tea and biscuits.
This month will be our Christmas meeting when we will be entertained by Ray Dance and Judith Sharpe, and we will have a finger buffet supper.
Carol Hughes.
