MELKSHAM Singin’ Group at the Riverside Club celebrated its sixth anniversary this month.
The singers – who meet every Wednesday from 2-4pm at the Riverside Club, organised by volunteers Mike and Jeanette Nash – welcomed local MP Michelle Donelan to their celebrations, who joined in the fun and tested out her vocal chords.
Michelle Donelan MP said, “This really is the best of our community and we are so lucky to have such dedicated volunteers to who have every right to feel very proud of the last 6 years they have been hosting the weekly event; I was made to feel so welcome and I can see why this group is such a success.
“Mike and Jeanette do a fantastic job organising this fun weekly event, the group choose from over 400 songs in Jeanette’s collection and spend a few very happy hours having a singalong! There were over 30 people in attendance and the weekly event often attracts many more and it is not hard to see why.”
The cost is £2 per session and tea and biscuits are provided. Words are provided for the huge range of songs so no one need worry if they don’t know any of the choices.
The emphasis at the meeting is fun, you do not need an excellent singing voice or even to be able to hold a tune, you just have to enjoy a sing song. The group welcomes anyone, although most people are 50+, access is good for wheelchairs and there is disabled parking at the front of the building.
The group also held an Easter bonnet parade this month. Group member, Sue Mortimer reports, “There were some amazing creations and the winner was Catherine Cooper.”
