Melksham built on Saturdays opening league win against Bitton with a fine 3-2 win at Slimbridge to take them away from the foot of the table.
The Town opened well and after both Tom Robinson and Dave Macey saw efforts go wide the Town took the lead on 22 minutes.Tom Robinson bravely won a 50/50 challenge on the half way line and knocked the ball into the path of Josh Robinson who made ground down the home left before knocking the ball across the box where Town striker Gary Higdon stroked the ball home for his 100th goal for the Town in only 139 appearances.
The Town continued to press with Tom Robinson prominent in central midfield and he saw his right foot effort deflected for a corner on 25 minutes after a strong Will Stead run and a flowing move between Kovacs, Robinson and Stead saw Steads effort blocked on 36 minutes.As the Town controlled possession Thompson headed over and Kovacs saw a further effort blocked but the half time interval was reached with the Town only holding a slender 1-0 advantage when in truth they should have been out of sight.
The second half started poorly for the Town as the home side scored within 3 minutes of the restart to bring the scores level at 1-1 and the Town supporters were wondering whether they were going to be made to pay for the lack of composure in front of goal in the first period.
However on 55 minutes a fine driven corner from Macey was flicked into the net by Dan Kovacs to put the Town 2-1 ahead.
On 59 minutes Town skipper Thompson picked up a caution and on 62 minutes Shaun Benison came on for Will Stead.On 67 minutes Kovacs nodded a Macey freekick just wide as the Town looked for the comfort of a two goal cushion.
On 82 minutes the Town passed up a glorious opportunity to make the game safe when Higdon blasted a left foot effort over after some neat approach play by Tom Robinson and Dan Kovacs but on 89 minutes Benison and Kovacs linked up well down the Town right and Benison calmly stroked home the Towns third goal to put the visitors 3-1 ahead.
With the last kick of the game the homeside scored again after some poor defending but the Town travelled back from Gloucestershire happy with another three points and pulled themselves away from the bottom of the table.
