Winners have been named in New Covent Garden Soup’s search for the nation’s unsung community heroes.
These are people who go above and beyond to help others locally or those who have achieved something special. Charlotte Chivers, from Melksham won the South West category, and on Saturday 16th January attended a celebratory dinner at exclusive members’ club Home House in Central London.
Charlotte’s win follows a bid last autumn to unearth community ‘Souper Stars’ worthy of recognition, which saw New Covent Garden Soup travel the length and breadth of the UK in a ‘souped up’ wagon, encouraging Brits to nominate those making a difference in their community.
As well as seeking out the nations’ stars worthy of celebration, New Covent Garden Soup supported local charities along the way; donating to those who make a difference locally.
The winners across 14 regions were judged by a panel of independent editorial teams across the UK.
A busy single mum to two sons; one of which has ASD, Charlotte works as a chef in a local children’s nursery where she prepares meals for over 40 children a day. By sourcing new local, organic and ethical suppliers, Charlotte worked to achieve a Soil Association gold catering mark for the nursery – all the while continuing to cook up nourishing and healthy meals daily from scratch.
Charlotte was nominated by her friend and colleague Mary, who commented, “Despite being a single mother Charlotte is the most generous person I know! As a colleague she is thoughtful, caring and dedicated – a completely irreplaceable member of the team. Charlotte really does deserve a treat and I hope this win shows her how much we appreciate and adore her!”
Jeremy Hudson, New Covent Garden Soup CEO said, “The contributions our winners have made to their communities are truly remarkable and each is a true inspiration. Charlotte’s actions embody the warming sense of selfless community spirit which it is so important to encourage and celebrate.”
