Spa Road is preparing for large-scale repairs, which are due to begin next Monday 14th September.
Resurfacing and repair works are scheduled to last until 9th November. Parts of the road will be closed in three phases, as works move from the Market Place towards the hospital.
In a press release, Wiltshire Council said, “During the works period, access to enable residents to enter and egress from their property may temporarily be restricted due to site operations.
“The contractor will endeavour to minimise the delay; although due to the nature of the works minor disruption is inevitable.”
A diversion will be in place throughout the repairs, directing through traffic along Lowbourne, Sandridge Road, and onto Snowberry Lane.
Works are set to include reconstruction and resurfacing of the road, footway and kerbing works, drainage system repairs, replacement of road markings and the adjustment of ironwork.
A spokesperson added, “People won’t be able to drive from one end of Spa Road to the other during the works. However, as the workers won’t be working on the whole stretch at the same time some of it will still be accessible.
“People will have access to properties at all times and the closure will be manned during working hours to inform motorists which parts of the road they can get access to at any given time. Essentially they will be working on different parts of the road at different times so this should help minimise disruption.”
Town councillor Jon Hubbard said, “I’m very pleased that the work is finally being done. The road has been dodgy for cars for a while but I’ve been particularly concerned about cyclists, for whom it’s actually quite dangerous.”
