A FOREST Road resident has raised concerns about speeding traffic on the road.
Speaking at a recent Melksham Town Council meeting, the resident explained that speeding on Forest Road, which is a 20mph zone and has speed humps, is “horrendous”.
And that speeding buses and lorries are causing homes to vibrate, damaging interior walls.
“The speeding is absolutely horrendous,” said the resident at the town council meeting. “There are speed humps, which are absolutely pointless as nobody takes any notice of them, or very few vehicles do.”
The resident also told councillors that they have appealed to local bus operator, Faresaver, to ask that they tell their drivers to slow down.
“Their drivers do not take any notice of what their management is saying,” said the Forest Road resident. “It’s the night time that’s the worse. The 10.30pm bus goes whizzing past the house.”
However, Faresaver say that they have investigated the claim that buses are speeding on Forest Road and have found no evidence to support this. As the issue was not on the agenda for the town council, councillors were unable to make a resolution about what support they could offer.
However, cllr Jon Hubbard, who is also a Wiltshire Councillor, offered to meet the resident with a Wiltshire Council highways officer to explore “practical” solutions to the problem.
Cllr Hubbard also suggested a traffic survey be carried out, to find out what the extent of the problem is.
However, he warned that there will be no “instant solution” to the speeding problem.
In response to the concerns, director of Faresaver, Justin Pickford, told Melksham News, “We have had allegations from one member of the public about alleged excess speed in Forest Road. We have investigated this allegation using vehicle GPS tracking data and recorded CCTV footage from our vehicles and have been unable to find any evidence to back up this allegation.
“We do not believe there is a problem, however, we will of course continue to monitor the situation.”
