The Tourist Information Centre is much more than just a service for tourists, offering a range of greeting cards, souvenirs, locally produced items and tickets for local shows.
Based at 32 Church Street, the centre is open from 10am to 4pm, except on Wednesdays when it closes at 1pm. On Saturdays, it closes at 12pm and remains closed on Sundays.
“We have a range of greeting cards produced by local artists, all at very reasonable prices,” says team member John Ruderman.
“We sell local honey, souvenir mugs, postcards, tea towels, shopping bags and other locally produced items. We also have maps, guides and leaflets with information on things to do.
“We now have a huge selection of second-hand books from just 50p – come in and browse.”
The centre also sells tickets for local events at the Assembly Hall, Melksham Rock ‘n’ Roll Club and Melksham Music and Drama shows. “We also sell tickets for various local events throughout the year, such as concerts and the flower show,” says John.
“If you need to travel, we have timetables for local buses and trains and are agents for National Express for long-distance travel tickets.”
The team is also looking for volunteers to help in the shop. “Volunteers work a three-hour session, usually once a week. We are especially looking for someone to help on Saturday mornings,” explains John.
“If you have some time to spare and would like to join our friendly team, please call in or contact Andrea on 01225 707424.”
