WILTSHIRE Council has said that options are still being considered for the future of the site of Christie Miller Sports Centre.
The council has made the statement after concerns were raised about the future of the site, which closed in October, at last month’s Melksham Area Board meeting. Community members explained that they fear the site will stand empty for years to come after the council announced it had no plans for the facility for the forseeable future.
Following the meeting, area board members asked Wiltshire Council’s cabinet, “Are there plans to declare the building, and the highways builds adjacent to it, as surplus and dispose of them? And if so, what is the intended use?”
In response, a Wiltshire Council spokesperson said, “The council is working to empty and decommission both the sports centre and the adjacent former highways depot building.
“We are considering all of the potential options for the site, including disposal, and those options will be brought before cabinet at the appropriate time for decision.”
