MELKSHAM Town Council has said ‘thank you’ to all Melksham residents who donated pre-loved and brand-new clothing back in March, following an appeal to help Ukrainian people. As a follow-up, the council held a successful three-day warm clothes giveaway event at the Assembly Hall.

After sending several lorry loads of the most needed donations to Ukraine and a huge amount to the charity Rucksack in Trowbridge, the town council recently held a successful three-day giveaway event that saw over 300 residents and Ukrainian guests make homes for most of the winter clothing that was donated.
The town council would also like to pass on their appreciation to Sue Mortimer, Joe McCann and all the town hall staff and Assembly Hall staff for supporting this event.
The deputy town mayor, cllr Sue Mortimer said, “I was really pleased I was free to help out at Melksham’s giveaway day of winter coats and clothes at the Assembly Hall last week. Thanks to the warmth of Melksham people, there were items on offer that will keep out the cold for all ages this winter. With the ever-rising cost of living this year (especially energy prices) it made perfect sense to do this and I know it was appreciated by many. Thank you to all involved.”
Due to public demand, it is hoped another Melksham Winter Clothes Giveaway Day will take place in January.
