LOCAL woman, Sue Mortimer, celebrated her 70th birthday last month with a charity challenge to remember!
On her milestone day, Sue set herself the challenge of tackling 17 tasks, and performing them 70 times – tasks included climbing a set of stairs, star jumps, hula hooping, ballroom dancing, and a number of netball-based exercises. Sue has raised £555 for Bath Royal United Hospital’s Forever Friends Appeal.
About why she chose to fundraise for the RUH, Sue said, “I know being able to reach 70 is down to the fantastic team in the cancer care of the RUH for the treatment I received back in 2008/2009 for Hodgkin lymphoma. As gruelling as the treatment was, I am in no doubt that it saved my life.
“It is for this reason that I chose, on my 70th birthday, to raise funds for the RUH Forever Friends Appeal.
“My birthday took the form in the way I have always lived my life – work hard, play harder, collapse! I enjoyed the challenge, I found 70 times up the stairs the most tiring, 70 heel kicks in the pool most difficult, 70 star jumps in the pool the easiest, 70 hula hoops the most fun, 70 skips the most work out for the heart and the last waltz 70 times the most fulfilling.
“Many thanks to my family and friends who joined in with my celebrations and to everyone that has donated so far.”
