A MELKSHAM teenager charged in connection with the fire at King George V playing fields in May, will appear in court this month.
The 13-year old was arrested shortly after the fire on 30th May, which caused damage estimated to cost over £2,000, destroying a picnic bench located outside the pavilion, and causing some damage to the exterior of the pavilion.
As a result, the park’s splashpad was closed for eight days over the half-term school holiday.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said, “A 13-year-old boy has been charged in connection with a fire at King George V playing fields in Melksham. The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with arson. He has been released on conditional bail to appear at Salisbury Youth Court next month.”
