MELKSHAM Carnival will be back next year after a one-year gap.
The popular community event, one of the highlights of Melksham’s calendar, was cancelled this year because the Carnival team couldn’t raise the £3,000 to cover the basic costs.
But following months of fundraising, the event is set to make a big comeback after the team reached their fundraising target.
“Make a date for your diary – Saturday 13th July!” said a delighted Michelle Brightwell, one of the carnival volunteers.
“We’ve worked so hard this year to raise funds. We have been a lots of community events to raise funds throughout the year and we are so pleased that now we can start planning.
“We know how much the carnival means to our town, and how popular it is and couldn’t bear to see it absent for another year. And at our recent meeting, we couldn’t actually believe we were booking the date in. We were really excited. We have also got some more volunteers to help now too, so we can’t wait to start planning.
“The feeling of when we walk towards the town and see the whole community lining the streets by the bridge, it makes it all so worth it.
“We would love to hear what YOU would like to see in the parade next year! Visit our Facebook page or email MelkshamCarnival@ hotmail.com.”
