Beekeepers from around Melksham are busily preparing for the Wiltshire Bee & Honey Day, incorporating the County Honey Show, which takes place on Saturday 6th October at the Corn Exchange, Devizes, SN12 1HS between 10am and 2pm.
Members of Melksham Beekeepers Association have a strong chance of walking away with the Applegate Trophy, for which all Wiltshire beekeeping associations compete annually.
The event includes talks especially for people thinking about taking up the hobby: ‘So you want to keep bees? An introduction to beekeeping as a hobby’ by Melksham beekeeper Richard Rickitt.
Other activities include: candle rolling, face painting, exploring inside a virtual hive, honey beer tasting and mead tasting, and a selection of bee-related products including Melksham honey and candles, cosmetics made from beeswax and honey, bee-friendly plants and seeds, skeps and gifts on sale from a variety of local suppliers.
