TOWN councillor and local transport expert, Graham Ellis, is encouraging the community to “think bus and train” when planning journeys.
“During Coronavirus lockdowns public transport use plummeted,” explains Graham. “[But] services at Melksham are running at previous levels now, but once again the story across the UK is ‘use it or lose it’.
“Services at far-flung places such as Fishguard, Marple and Morpeth are down or devastated. Direct services to Trowbridge and Bradford-on-Avon from London are under threat (and a rear-guard action being fought to save them after December).
“I don’t think we have a risk of losing almost all of our trains again like we did from 2006 to 2013 but – please – think bus and train. The trains run each way, every couple of hours, every day of the week.”
A Melksham Transport User Group meeting will be held on 15th September, both online and in person. For more information, visit their website: www.mrug. org.uk
