FOREST Community Centre was broken into last week but staff are confident that the culprit will be caught thanks to CCTV.
In the early hours of Thursday the 3rd September, the centre was broken into, but fortunately no significant damage was caused.
Chair of the community centre Vic Oakman said, “I noticed something wasn’t right when I was walking the dog at about 6.30am on Thursday morning. When I went inside I was pleased to see that there wasn’t a lot of damage. They got into the till but luckily there wasn’t any money in it. Then they broke into the store room but there wasn’t anything in there either. So they broke into the office and unfortunately there was money from Bingo which was about £70.
“But they weren’t the brightest of burglars because they turned all the lights on, so the CCTV could see their faces quite clearly. It was obviously thirsty work as well, because they helped themselves to a can of coke and lemonade.
“The staff were very annoyed and frustrated, but were pleased that no significant damage was caused.
“We’re quite confident that who did it will be caught. It is definitely worthwhile having CCTV because it is clear evidence, especially when they kindly put the light on and look at the camera.
“It is a shame, but we aren’t dwelling on it. We’re getting back to normal.”
