Melksham Probus Club held their annual outing accompanied by their wives, friends and guest members of Avon Bowls Club to the SS Great Britain in Bristol, on 6th July.
They left the Market Place in Melksham and travelled by coach to the Hillier Garden Centre in Newton-St-Lowe for a coffee break. Proceeding to Bristol, the group enjoyed lunch at the Severn Shed Restaurant, which used to be Brunel’s Boathouse, on Bristol Waterside.
A private ferry then awaited them for a cruise around the docks, eventually disembarking at the SS Great Britain.
After spending almost two hours exploring the SS Great Britain, they returned to Melksham in the early evening.
The outing was organised by this year’s Probus chairman Colin Edwards ably assisted by his wife Dawn, and committee members Richard Buckland and Kevin Hayes, who carried out a recce of the trip.
Melksham Probus Club is for retired men who welcome the chance to meet once a month for lunch and a talk by a guest speaker. They are actively interested in recruiting new members. A big thank you to the three members, and the chairman’s wife, who spent a day organising the trip. It was appreciated by all who went.
