WILTSHIRE Council has introduced a new recycling scheme where you can recycle a wider variety of materials including food and drink cartons, as well as plastic pots, tubs and trays.
From Monday 30th July, you will be able to recycle more plastic items from your home, using your blue-lidded bin.
You will be able to recycle the following items: plastic bottles, plastic pots, tubs and trays, cardboard, food and drink cartons and shredded paper. Unfortunately, black plastic and plastic film cannot currently be recycled.
Wiltshire Council said, “We want to help you recycle more by increasing the range of materials you can recycle at home. Recycling materials has less impact on the environment than burying them in landfill or burning them to generate energy, so the more we can recycle, the better it is for the environment.
“In addition, it tends to be more cost effective to recycle materials than to deliver them to energy from waste plants or to landfill them.”
Mayor, cllr Adrienne Westbrook, who has been one of the leaders of the move to make Melksham single-use plastic-free said, “I think anything that makes it easier for people to recycle is a great thing. I do think it has been a long time coming, to be honest.
“I have been separating my plastics for a while now, taking them to the recycling centre, but that isn’t an option for everyone. Having everything placed in one bin is a much easier option.
“This year, we are going the extra mile at the River and Food Festival by making it a green festival. We are having a big push on extra bins across the area for recyclables, that will be sorted separately to the waste.”
