After eight years of intense training, local Psychotherapist Kelly Potter has been awarded her master’s degree in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy. Kelly’s one-to-one work with clients began as a volunteer with Turning Point in Chippenham where she offered therapy sessions to people struggling with addiction. Kelly worked as a volunteer for one year before she opened her successful private practice in Melksham which she has been running for the last seven years. Her recent qualification has enabled her to expand her business and take on more clients from the community. Alongside offering psychotherapy services, Kelly also run’s a local women’s circle and offers alternative healing modalities such as Reiki and Rahanni energy healing.
I have eight years’ experience working with clients and I have helped many of them work through and heal from their past traumas, develop healthier more authentic relationships with themselves and others, and become more self-aware and grounded.
Kelly works with clients suffering from a range of difficulties such as depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, grief and loss, stress, trauma, low confidence and low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, abandonment, anger, loneliness, trust and commitment difficulties and much more.
“Some people come to therapy because they are struggling with something specific in their life that is causing them concern or holding them back in some way. Some have childhood traumas or recent traumas that they want to work through and heal from. Some have a sense that something doesn’t feel right within them, but they aren’t sure what it is. The truth is, most of us will suffer with some kind of psychological distress at some point in our lives. Reaching out for support can be hard but talking to a Psychotherapist can help ease that distress and set you on a path of healing, self-discovery and personal growth.”
I was drawn to psychotherapy through my own life experiences and the benefits I felt after engaging with a psychotherapist in my twenties. I have always been highly curious and interested in people and this coupled with my wish to help people led me to train as a Psychotherapist with BCPC in Bath. I truly believe in the transformative power of psychotherapy and that we should all engage in therapy from time to time, so we continue to heal and grow throughout our lifetime.
“The aim of my business has always been to create safe and empowering therapeutic spaces which support people on their healing and self-growth / self-discovery journeys. Thankfully, nowadays people are more comfortable talking about their mental health and they are more confident in seeking out support.”
Through my work with female clients, I realised there was a common need emerging where women were looking to explore their spirituality and form deeper connections with other women. From this need and interest, the idea for monthly women’s circles was born and I have been holding a monthly women’s circle for the past year now. It has been a huge success, so much so that I am starting a second circle in January 2024.
The women’s circle meets monthly at a yoga studio in Shaw. In modern society, women are often pitted against each other creating competition, judgement, and conflict in our relationships. In circle we learn how to heal these feminine wounds and to deeply and authentically connect with each other: we share, listen, build trust and learn that through sisterhood, we are empowered in so many ways.
A typical circle includes sharing our experiences as we listen and connect with each other and participating in a range of activities to promote self-reflection, deeper connection to self and others, authentic communication and creativity such as meditation, journaling, craft and ceremonies.
In circle, you don’t have to pretend to be someone you are not, you can drop any masks you may have been wearing and know that you are accepted, just as you are. It’s a place for you to surrender and be present in the ‘now’.
Along my own spiritual path I came across energy healing modalities such as Reiki and Rahanni Celestial Healing which I found to be deeply healing and calming therapies. I trained to become a practitioner of both healing modalities so that I could provide them alongside psychotherapy which is proving to be very successful. My clients are enjoying a mixture of talking and energy healing sessions which enables healing on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level.
I would say that anyone looking to improve their mental health, heal from trauma, grow and evolve spiritually, connect through community and anyone wanting to understand themselves on a deeper level will benefit from my offerings.
