PUPILS from Melksham primary The Manor School ended the school year with a bang, bringing home awards for cookery, gardening, and their carnival float.
The school’s carnival float ‘To Infinity and Beyond’ won the Mayor’s Choice award at the Melksham Carnival on 12th July. The float was created by the school’s carnival club, run by Mrs Ridewood.
Headteacher Kerry Haines said, “The float was designed to complement and enhance the children’s learning as they had been focusing on a journey through space. The carnival club comprised of parents, children and staff all coming together to create the fantastic shuttle and artwork. The children practised their carnival dance every Friday afternoon during assembly, however nothing can prepare them or the staff for performing in front of the thousands of people lining the streets of Melksham.”
Secondly, a group of year six students fought “fierce” competition to win 2nd place at Melksham Oak Community School’s ‘Superchef’ contest. The two junior cooks wowed the judges with a shepherd’s pie and pineapple upside-down cake.
Last but not least, the school won two 3rd place awards in the Melksham in Bloom competition. Mrs Mence and her gardening club placed third in the school category and in the ‘Best gold coloured floral display’.
Kerry Haines said, “The fantastic thing with these awards are that they would not have happened if it were not for the strong links we have with our parents and the local community. Everyone who has played a part no matter how big or small has contributed to gaining these awards which we are very proud of.”
