VOLUNTEERS were out in force at the weekend for the first post-lockdown Town Tidy Day.
Working in pairs or in family groups, 32 adults plus children, met across two locations – Bath Road car park and the Woody play area at Queensway – for the event organised by South West in Bloom Melksham.
A spokesperson for the event said, “As usual a lot of litter was collected, this included bottles, cans, nitrate canisters, balloons, sweet wrappers, crisp packets and discarded masks. Why can’t people take there bottles home with them? Smashing them and throwing onto the river bank in Conigre Mead Nature Reserve is totally unacceptable.
“Paul from Super Whippy ice-cream van very kindly gave all the volunteers a free ice-cream – thank you very much Paul, a very noble thought and very much appreciated.
“A massive thank you to all the volunteers who help today, a great job done by all and a special thank you to all the children.”
