Saturday 26th August – Melksham Town 2-0 Exmouth
Monday 28th August – Westbury United FC 1-4 Town
TOWN headed into the two games over the bank holiday weekend looking to keep their unbeaten League run going and hoping to erase the memory of the poor performance the week before in the FA Cup, reports club chairman Darren Perrin.
On Saturday against Exmouth, Town started slowly but gradually got into the ascendancy with some good football with Lewis Powell and Ben Brooks proving a menace to the away defenders all afternoon. In the second half, Town took a deserved lead through Ben Brooks following a well worked set piece move. Town doubled the lead when Deon Moleneux scored his first goal for the club with a goalmouth scramble. Town saw the game out comfortably to record a 2 – 0 win to extend their unbeaten run and keep their third clean sheet of the season.
On bank holiday Monday, Town ‘travelled away’ to play near neighbours and good friends Westbury United. This game was played at Melksham due to Westbury’s dressing rooms failing ground grading and with Westbury needing to groundshare for their next four home-fixtures. Town were looking to go unbeaten for the first four games of the Southern League season for the first ever time against a side who won 3 – 0 at Bideford on the Saturday.
Town produced a fantastic performance of fast flowing football to win the game 4 – 1 thanks to two goals from Ben Brooks and strikes from Albie Hopkins and Ralph Graham. The players and management staff were disappointed to concede their first goal of the season but this result puts Town into third spot, level on points with the two teams above them and same goal difference.
Although very early days and football has a habit of kicking you in the backside very quickly, there is no doubt there is a very good atmosphere at the club and we urge the Melksham public to continue to come in your numbers to support your football team and hopefully have a successful season.
