Over 200 Melksham parkrun runners and walkers turned out to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the NHS in the King George V Playing Field (KGV) on Saturday 8th July.
Local runners were encouraged to ‘parkrun for the NHS’ at parkrun events all over the country, giving local communities the chance to acknowledge the huge contribution that the NHS makes to the health of the nation and celebrate all the staff and volunteers, past and present, who have made the NHS what it is.
Sue Mortimer, one of the Melksham parkrun organisers, said, “Taking part in your local parkrun whether as a runner, jogger or walker gives us the opportunity to keep ourselves fitter and healthier for free.
“Going forward, the NHS is going to need our support to survive as it faces a whole range of pressures. Keeping ourselves fit and active is good for both our physical and mental health. This is one small step we can take to improve our own health and wellbeing, and at the same time one giant step we can take to support our beloved NHS.”
Melksham parkrun is 5km run, jog or walk, held in the King George V Park, Melksham, SN12 7ED every Saturday at 9am. There is also a 2km Junior Parkrun for 4 to 14 year olds every on Sunday at 9am.
