LOCAL people in Melksham have been taking part in the Macmillan Coffee Morning, raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The official coffee morning took place on Friday 29th September and was a chance for local businesses, groups and organisations to bake and sell cakes to raise funds for the charity that supports people living with cancer.
Tops Hair Salon & Beauty was one of the businesses that took part and raised £300. Director and salon manager, Victoria said, “Our coffee morning went really well; we had support from clients, other businesses and just people passing by and popping in for coffee, cake and a chat! The team all baked and we had everything from a victoria sponge, rocky road and millionaires’ shortbread to coffee cake and Robyn’s carrot cake which won her star baker!”
Daisychain Day Nursery in Whitley also took part. Lucy from the nursery said, “Children and parents spent the week baking and the day enjoying lots of delicious cakes and sweet treats. Thank you to everyone who baked and donated to our cake sale. Your generosity raised a whopping £296.70 for Macmillan Cancer Support.”
Melksham care home, Mavern House, raised £225 and a retirement complex in the town, Crown House, also raised just over £179. A spokesperson for the complex said, “Many residents have had or know someone who has had cancer and know what a difference Macmillan Cancer Support makes. The residents have been amazing, so generous, donating raffle prizes, baking cakes and most importantly donating.”
