THE Friends of Shurnhold Fields has received a donation of semi-mature trees from a local company to plant in the community green space.
The group, which looks after the ‘mini-country park’ on the site of the former George Ward School playing fields, were recently joined by volunteers from the Melksham-based business, Knorr-Bremse, to plant the donated trees.
The group said, “The Friends of Shurnhold Fields (FOSF) would like to publicly thank Nick Brailey Knorr Bremse UK marketing and communications manager, Steve Lucas and Kieran Charleworth, Knorr Bremse volunteers, for their sterling efforts arranging and planting the first 25 semi-mature trees, with a further 22 to be planted in the autumn, which were kindly donated by the company from their community fund.
“We would also like to thank all the members of the public for their generous donations of trees and plants numbering 140 over the last 3 years. We must also thank JH Jones and M Hardman our landscapers who have donated their time and people to support the park way beyond what you might expect from a contractor and the Rotary Club for their generous grant.
“The community park has been embraced by the people of Melksham with their very kind comments and donations which will secure the park for our next generation of users.
“Thanks again to all the donors and volunteers resting assured that FOSF will continue to look after the park to the best of its ability well into the future.”
