MELKSHAM Town have vowed to pick themselves up and get back on top after a disappointing draw away and a loss at home.
Playing away to Chipping Sodbury Town, the team looked to be on course to continue their winning streak when they went 2-0 up early on in the match with goals from Ben Thomson and Gary Higdon. However, the home side quickly fought back, levelling the score at 2-all.
“It wasn’t our best performance. It was really disappointing as we went 2-0 up, before dropping two goals,” said team captain Mike Perrott.
“They are a good team, they kept trying and working hard, but we weren’t good enough.”
Later on that week Town welcomed Shepton Mallet to the Oakfields and were determined to put the disappointing draw behind them.
It looked like the home crowd were to be treated to another home win when new signing from Larkhall Athletic, Tyler Sibbick scored a goal in the 80th minute of the match.
But the visiting team quickly responded scoring in the 85th and 87th minutes to steal the win with a 1-2 final score.
“This was more disappointing than our draw against Chipping Sodbury,” said Mike.
“We’ve set ourselves a target to get as many points as possible at home, and we already have a great record at home.
“This is our first loss this season at home, we weren’t at our best and the performance just wasn’t good enough.”
Despite the recent setbacks, the players have vowed to return to the same form at the start of the season that saw them win three games in a row.
“What we need to do now is get together and re-group. We can’t be too despondent, it’s still very early on in the season. It’s a good squad and I am sure that we can overcome these disappointments and get back to where we were at the start of the season. It’s important that we respond to these set-backs in a positive way, rather than let them get us down.
“Overall we are happy with how we have started the season.”
