A packed Assembly Hall welcomed TV’s newest celebrity – international floral designer Jonathan Mosley with his demonstration ‘Focal Point’.
Although extremely well known in ‘flower circles’, Jonathan has been one of the judges on the recent TV series ‘The Great British Allotment Challenge’ during which he has been judging the floral displays produced by the contestants.
Chairman Rosalyn Clarke welcomed the Mayor of Melksham, cllr Terri Welch, Pat Alford, area president and Mary Keily area chairman of SW Area of NAFAS as well as members, friends and supporters from other flower clubs in the area.
The charity that the flower club is supporting is Wiltshire Young Carers, and a number of stalls, including an excellent plant stall, encouraged everyone to support this good cause. Sainsbury’s sponsored the event with wine and glasses which were really appreciated by all.
Jonathan Mosley comes from Derbyshire and annually designs the summer flower festival at Chatsworth House and also Christmas decorations there. He travels throughout the country taking his own particular skills of design – but his first love is horticulture which he trained in as a young man. Floristry and flower arranging developed from this and after owning his own flower shops he now freelances for various wholesale suppliers and other engagements.
Jonathan’s easy style makes the most complicated arrangement look simple. He used a selection of wonderful flowers that were in season at present and soon the stage was amass with his creations. His amusing repartee and knowledge held the audience with rapt attention. Everyone wanted to win one of his creations in the raffle!!
The vote of thanks was given by Melksham President Ann Burgess, and the chairman thanked everyone who had contributed to such a fantastic evening.
