A COFFEE morning fundraiser at ‘The Riverside’ raised nearly £800 for Ukraine.
Co-organiser and chair of The Riverside (formerly Riverside Club), Chris Pickett reports, “On Saturday 16th April the Riverside held a special event to support the Ukrainian Appeal through the ‘Disaster Emergency Appeal’ (DEC). The event included fresh coffee and home-made cake and biscuits, crochet yellow and blue label badges, as well as window hangings made by Judith Stannard.
“Personal greeting cards made by Wendy Curtis and a very unique acrylic painter by Dennis Dix of the River Avon, which was raffled and won by Sue Mortimer. The raffle was ably run by Clive Dix, his father. In addition, Derek Sowton made a sunflower using horseshoes and a sieve to great effect. He had a silent auction, which was won by Katie Minshall.
“The Rotary had a stall and the Melksham Shed also provided goods for this most worthy appeal. To round off the event the Melksham Ukulele Social Club played fantastically for the entire time outside the entrance, drawing people over from the town shops.
“Thank you to all who made this possible and to help raise nearly £800. Much thanks must also go to the many shops and estate agency windows who agreed to display posters prior to the event. The enthusiastic attendance of the Melksham community is heart-warming and makes Melksham the right sort of place to live and bring up families. I, for one, am delighted and proud to be a resident.”
The Riverside, located on the Millennium Riverside Walk near King George V playing field, is available to hire. Chris adds, “The Riverside is now very modern! In order to book the venue, you will need to go through the website: www.theriverside.org.uk
“Many improvements have been made to the entrance, the hall and the kitchen to make it a pride of Melksham.”
