WITH Christmas fast approaching, people in Melksham are being reminded to ‘shop local’ this Christmas, and use local businesses to buy presents, cards, decorations and festive food.
Pledging his support to the independent retailers in the town, mayor of Melksham, cllr Jon Hubbard, told Melksham News, “For the retail industry Christmas is their peak and can often make or break a business. I hope we can all get behind the wonderful businesses who populate our town here in Melksham.
“If everyone who lives in the town just purchased one extra present from a local store rather than online or from another town this year, the boost to our retailers would be huge. If we all bought two presents locally then that would be even better.
“We still have a great range of retailers in Melksham. We have great butchers, a wonderful toy shop, clothing, a fantastic collection of shops selling unique products – perfect for presents, and some wonderful coffee shops and town centre pubs to take a welcome break in during the shop.
“With businesses in our town it really is a case of use them or lose them.”
