MELKSHAM’S new Carnival Queen, Michelle Brightwell, was crowned alongside her princess, Sophie Clark, butterfly princess Lola Brady and prince Keyaan Bewley after being selected at a ceremony on Sunday.
The selection was made following Melksham Carnival’s Toddler and Baby competition. The competitions, which were held at the Assembly Hall, were organised by Melksham Carnival Committee.
Organiser Beth Dark said, “The day was a great success. We had a lot of entries for each of the categories and they were all fantastic. This is a massive event and we always try and improve each year and better ourselves and I think we have done that once again.
“The royalty transport at the carnival this year is a secret but will definitely be worth watching out for!”
Melksham’s new Carnival Queen, Michelle Brightwell said, “I was shocked to have won but I am really pleased. I entered my kids in the earlier event so I thought while I’m here I will give it a go. My son finished second in his competition so it’s been a good day.”
Butterfly Princess, Lola Brady said, “I am really happy. I didn’t expect to win. It’s been a really good day!”
The newly-crowned Prince, Keyaan Bewley was at the competition with his grandmother who said, “I am one proud nanny! It’s great that he has won and he is really happy.”
Melksham’s bonniest babies were also chosen last weekend as part of Melksham Carnival’s Toddler and Baby competition. Winner of the 0-6 months category was Ellis Clushin with Austin Newman taking second place and Lilie Winslow in third. Charlie Sullivan took first place in the 6-12 months category, with Dylan Povey in second and Finlee Taylor in third. The 1-2 years category was won by Rowan Parker with Jessica Taylor as runner-up and Madison Holland in third. In the 2-4 years category, Kai Sullivan won first place with James Crossley in second place and Raphael Jefferies in third. The overall winner having gained the highest overall score by the judges was Kai Sullivan.
In the most photogenic baby as chosen by Andy York Photography, Harry Matthew Poulsom won the 0-18 month category. Rhys Mclaren won the 18-36 month category.

The new carnival royalty will take centre stage at Melksham Carnival, which will be held on Saturday 13th of July, and will also be involved with various activities throughout the year.
