THE White Hart pub in Atworth has smashed its 10-year target of raising £50,000 for local causes and charities.
Pub owners, Kirsty and Nathan Cortilla, have announced that in 2019 the pub raised £8,523, pushing their overall fundraising amount, since 2009, to £50,470.
To coincide with Kirsty and Nathan’s 10th anniversary of taking over the pub, a number of fundraising events were organised throughout last year, including the pub’s annual summer music festival, a dog show, quiz nights, discos, and breakfast club meetings. All monies raised has been donated to a number of local causes, including Melksham Lions, the Bowerhill Barkers, and Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
Kirsty and Nathan said, “Last year was a fantastic year for us – not only did we celebrate our 10th anniversary at the pub, but we also won Melksham Person of the Year; came seventh out of 336 pubs in the Rover Dog Friendly Awards for the South West; and came second for the Pub of the Year in Wiltshire! So to finish off the year by breaking our ‘£50,000 in 10 years’ fundraising target, is the icing on the cake.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to all our customers and the community in helping us to reach this target. The last 10 years have been amazing. We have stuck to one rule over the past decade – being a traditional village pub, nothing more, nothing less. Hosting live bands, tributes and charity events alongside great home cooked food and drink. We might have been here 10 years now, but we feel that we have a lot more to give – so watch this space!”
