SHAW and Whitley WI had its first meeting of the year recently and bade farewell to a long-standing member of the organisation.
Carol Hughes reports, “Geraldine De’ath stood in for our president as she was unable to attend, as were quite a few members due to illness. She welcomed us all and wished us all a happy new year.
“Carol then thanked Sylvia Thompson for all her hard work during her many years with us, a member for 42 years.
“Spending much of that time as our secretary, she was also a Wiltshire W.I. Advisor bringing her invaluable knowledge and advice to us all especially to our long serving presidents Lin Salter and Sylvia Bennett; Sylvia will be moving shortly to be nearer her family.
“During December we did flower arranging at the reading rooms and had a very good afternoon, and we also did carol singing at Mavern House.
“We then welcomed our speaker who stood in at short notice, Mrs Meanie MacMeekin who talked about Christmas myths and legends which proved to be both interesting and enlightening.
“Next month’s speaker will be Ellie Dickins with ‘The relationship between feet and shoes’. All welcome.”
