The Wilts & Berks Canal Trust is inviting people to support its popular open days on a section of restored waterway between Melksham and Chippenham.
Last year, the charity raised almost £1,900 from the monthly events at Pewsham Locks, near Lacock.
Visitors were able to enjoy a pop-up café at the wharf, tours of the worksite and wildlife habitats, and boat rides along the stretch that has already been rebuilt.
This year the charity hopes to attract even more people and is keen to welcome some extra volunteers.
Brian Wright, chairman of the events committee of the Melksham, Chippenham & Calne branch of the Trust, said, “The open days usually take place on the second Saturday of each month from April to October. They’re a great way for people to learn more about the history of the canal and go ‘behind the scenes’ of our local restoration projects, as well as enjoying walks along the towpath and boat rides towards Lacock.
“Volunteers can help with towing, launching and crewing the trip boat, with full training provided, or talking to visitors and acting as a guide.
“There are also opportunities to support the pop-up café, serving customers or, if you prefer to fundraise from the comfort of your own home, baking cakes for sale. Every offer of help is gratefully received.”
The start of each event also includes exclusive boat rides for local charities and community groups, available by donation. Previous guests have included Men’s Sheds, Lions groups, care homes, retirement homes and social clubs for disabled children, young people and adults.
