St John Ambulance volunteers in Melksham will celebrate eight decades of service to the community with free first aid demonstrations on Saturday 28th April.
In the town’s Market Place, from 10am to 2.30pm, the charity’s local team will show practical life-saving skills such as how to give CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and deal with someone who’s choking.
Meanwhile, youngsters can meet St John Ambulance’s furry mascot, Bertie Badger.
“Our unit – then called a division – was formed on November 4th, 1938,’ said SJA volunteer unit manager Andrew Freestone.
“Since then, we’ve operated from several buildings in Melksham and always had an active presence in the town; volunteers providing first aid cover for events locally, throughout Wiltshire, and further afield.”
As well as learning first aid, you’ll also be able to find out more about the charity’s work, including volunteering opportunities with the town’s adult and cadet (aged 10 to 17) groups.
