WILTSHIRE Wildlife Trust and local volunteers of all ages spent an afternoon making bird boxes in Conigre Mead Nature Reserve last week.
The workshop, part of the charity’s ‘Wild Connections’ project, saw nearly 40 volunteers join in for National Bird Box Week.
Local conservationist Ian Cardy said, “The children, with the help of adults, enjoyed a morning in the chilly sunshine building bird houses, some of which were put up in the churchyard and Conigre Mead Nature Reserve, and some they took home for their own gardens.
“We will be monitoring the new boxes during the coming week.”
The nature reserve, on the bank of the river behind Sainsbury’s, is a designated wild area and home to numerous animal, bird and insect species. It is managed by volunteers with the help of conservation charity Wiltshire Wildlife Trust.
