PLANS to bring a junior parkrun to Melksham are under threat if volunteers don’t come forward.
Junior parkrun will be a free event aimed at children aged 4-14, allowing them to run unaccompanied around a 2km course in King George V playing field on Sunday mornings, supervised by a team of volunteers.
However, before the event can take place volunteers are needed to train as run directors and without the participation of these volunteers, the run is unable to go ahead.
Craig Murray, who is leading the campaign to bring junior parkrun to Melksham said, “It appears that there’s not many people willing to step forward. To run the event we require six run directors, but at the moment we have two.
“To become a run director, it involves taking part in some training which lasts roughly two hours for 3/4 sessions over 3/4 weeks. These sessions are a requirement and must be completed.
“I know how desperate you all are for this to begin but without a core team, with these positions filled, we cannot make this amazing opportunity for the kids of Melksham a reality.”
