A meeting is being held at the Melksham Without Parish Council offices on Wednesday 6th April to discuss where health, care, community and leisure facilities might be provided for the Melksham area over the next ten years.
The aim of the discussion, hosted by the Melksham Neighbourhood Plan Health and Wellbeing Task Group, is to identify suitable local sites where health, care, community and leisure facilities might be provided.
The group says, “With a rapidly growing population and more new houses in the pipeline, there is a danger that local public services may not keep up with demand. Already local GPs have registered more than 28,000 patients at the three surgeries in Melksham – that is the number of people that Wiltshire Council projected would be the size of the community for 2021.
“Meeting the health needs of local people is not just about treatment of illness. We need to promote wellbeing by creating safe and secure communities that people enjoy living in, working in and visiting.
“That means providing accommodation for older people in safe and secure homes; creating new housing estates with plenty of open spaces; planting and play areas to help reduce stress; delivering multi-use community halls for residents to use for clubs and socialising; and recreation facilities for people to enjoy and get fit.
“The meeting is open to the public, but space is limited so please let us know if you want to come.
