A local woman is taking to the skies for a daredevil charity wing walk – despite a fear of flying.
Jakki Jenkins is raising money for Wiltshire Air Ambulance with a wing walk on 6th July and hopes to complete a loop-the-loop.
“I actually have a fear of flying, so by completing a wing walk is my way over overcoming the fear!” said Jakki. “If I can stand on top of a plane – I can get in one!
“Most of my friends think I’m absolutely crazy for doing this. But I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve done one before and the excitement after doing the first one was exhilarating – I was on such a high once I touched back down to earth that I asked to go up again!
“The Wiltshire Air Ambulance is such a vital service to Wiltshire and the surrounding area and it cannot survive without the public donations they receive to save lives.
“The first wing walk I did was also for Wiltshire Air Ambulance – I raised £658 and this time, I’m hoping to raise £750. I was actually quite calm and relaxed prior to climbing on the plane, my friends that came with me were more nervous for me! It was such an amazing feeling once I was up in the air, such a totally breathtaking way of seeing the countryside.
“I have a Pool Tournament lined up for the 12th May from 4pm in my local pub, The Pilot, Bowerhill. The pub has been really supportive with helping me fund raise and at some point, will be holding a raffle there as well.
“There will also be a ‘bucket collection’ at Asda in Melksham – date to be confirmed. As well as fundraising for Wiltshire Air Ambulance, I’ve also raised funds for Dorothy House by the way of sponsorship towards a Fire Walk, after a very good friend of mine passed away there last year.
“I know times are tough but any donation – small or large – will be greatly appreciated towards raising my target of £750. I have a JustGiving page – Jakki’s Wing Walk 2023.”
