The Melksham venue for the 2019 World Day of Prayer service was St. Michael & All Angels, Canon Square.
“This year’s ecumenical women-led service was put together by the women of Slovenia,” said Linda Maslen of St. Michael’s Church. “The theme was ‘Come Everything is Ready’. The local churches taking part were St, Michael’s, St. Andrew’s, St. Barnabas (Anglican), St. Anthony’s (Roman Catholic), Broughton Road Baptist, United Church and Queensway.
“The service was joyful but thought-provoking based on people being invited to a celebratory meal but some making excuses not to attend the celebration as in one of Jesus’ parables. Everyone in the congregation was given a small red carnation during the service. These flowers mark celebrations in Slovenia. Refreshments and fellowship was enjoyed by many after the service.
“This annual service is always held on the first Friday of March and the service next year will be held in St. Anthony of Padua (Roman Catholic), West End.”
