INDEPENDENT Councillor Terry Chivers, has hit out at Wiltshire Council after a local resident was told that the council doesn’t have a duty to provide street lights.
The resident was told this when he rang the council to complain that most street lights in The Beeches, Shaw, were out of order. Cllr Chivers said, “The Beeches is the latest of a long list of street lights out of order in my ward. Only last week I carried out a survey of all the lights in my ward and found dozens out of order.
“They have been reported, but for some reason Balfour Beatty Living Places just aren’t responding, and carrying out the repairs; it’s a total disgrace. Some of these lights have been out for up to six months; it’s not good enough. If it’s happening here so it must be a problem right the way across Wiltshire. I have last week contacted Conservative Portfolio holder Councillor Philip Whitehead, asking for a urgent meeting. The council are paying for a service they aren’t getting.”
