An Under-9s football team has raised over £1,000 for the cancer unit at the Royal United Hospital in Bath by playing a series of fun football challenges over three hours.
The Under-9s Tornadoes recently raised the funds for the RUH Dyson Centre, which provides oncology, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy for cancer patients. The fundraiser was held in support of someone close to the team who is currently receiving care at the Dyson Centre.
Over the three hours, each match was split into 15-minute intervals, during which the players took part in various challenges including playing football one-legged and playing with a rugby ball and a beach ball. The players’ families and friends also took part in the games.
“It was a really great day,” explained coach Richard Sawyer. “On the day, 10 players joined in with the event along with friends and family. Every 15 minutes we did something different; we also had siblings and grandparents play, as well as taking part in various fun games.”
The Dyson Centre at the Royal United Hospital opened last April with the help of fundraising from individuals and community groups like the Tornadoes.
“We are really proud of how much we have raised for the Dyson Centre and really proud of the team for all their efforts and for playing three hours of football,” said Richard.
