Young people will be able to swim for free in Melksham Blue Pool this summer as Wiltshire Council’s pledge to fund free swimming during school holidays continues.
Children aged up to 16 can enjoy free swimming during specific public swimming sessions at the pool and other local Wiltshire Council and Places for People Leisure managed leisure centres.
The free sessions run from Monday, 25 July to Wednesday, 31 August. They are very popular so people are advised to arrive in plenty of time.
If they haven’t already done so, anyone under 16 who would like to swim for free during the school holidays will need to register for a free swim membership card. The card makes it faster and easier for people to check in and out of the sessions, and ensure all young people can take advantage of this offer.
Jonathon Seed, cabinet member for leisure, said, “It’s important all young people have the opportunity to enjoy popular and healthy activities during the school holidays.
“The numbers of people who take part in free swimming are fantastic, and show how much young people enjoy going swimming. It’s a fun, healthy and sociable activity to do.”
There are also lots exciting sports and physical activity opportunities taking place over the summer holidays across the county. This includes sport specific camps in athletics, basketball, cricket, tennis and football, which are delivered alongside partners including Wiltshire Cricket and Swindon Town Football in the Community.
Camps are open to all abilities, regardless of previous experience and provide a great opportunity to help young people remain active this summer. Each camp delivered by highly qualified staff who provide a mixture of challenges, games and coaching throughout the week making it fun and enjoyable for all.
