MELKSHAM’S carnival royalty competitions will be held this Sunday, when the queen and her entourage will be chosen for this year’s carnival.
The royalty competition, along with the Bonniest Baby and Carnival Cutie competitions, will be held at Melksham Assembly Hall on Sunday 13th March; the royalty competition is from 3.30pm; the baby competition from 1pm.
Beth Dark, the organiser said “We are looking for a variety of age groups to become our Fairy Princess, Butterfly Princess, Carnival Princess, Carnival Prince and The Carnival Queen.
“All of the Royalty will win a complete outfit to include a dress from Belle of the Ball, sash, tiara and also jewellery from West Country Jewellers (suit and crown for the Prince) which will be theirs to keep at the end of the year’s reign.
“On the day of the Carnival their hair and make- up (for the Carnival Queen) will be done and they will have a photo shoot, in their gorgeous outfits, with Andy York in the Littlebrook Centre, before joining the carnival procession where they will travel in style in a glamourous vehicle.
“The Royalty duties do not finish on the day of the Carnival. They will be invited to attend a variety of functions, for charity and businesses, during the whole of the year.
“The reigning Butterfly Princess, Grace, said “I wanted to be the Butterfly Princess for a few years so when they said I had won I couldn’t believe it. All year has been really exciting and every time I put on my dress and crown I felt really special.
“I was quite scared to begin with as there was lots of people I didn’t know but now I have made some brilliant friends and have some fantastic memories. I can’t wait to try out for Carnival Princess in a couple of years.
“The Carnival is one of the highlights of Melksham’s year and we are encouraging as many people as possible to enter,” added Beth. “The entry forms are available on our website and if you could get them returned asap, that would be a big help.”
