100 runners lined up on the Broughton Gifford Common for the tenth running of the Foxtrot 5 road race.
From the start Michael Towler of Avon Valley Runners and Joshua Dixon of North Somerset AC broke away from the rest of the field. After a couple of miles the Avon Valley Runner had been dropped leaving last year’s runner up, Josh Dixon to take victory in an impressive 25:59 with Michael Towler over 30 seconds adrift and Ewen Malloch of Team Bath coming home in 27:07 to take third spot.
In 16th place, Peter McGarry of Calne SMaRTT claimed the award for 1st MV40 with Gary Hughes of Team Bath 1st MV50 and Andy Bidmead of Bitton Road Runners 1st MV60. With Peter Veleski and Dominic Beddis both finishing inside the top-10 they joined Michael Towler on the rostrum to collect the Mens team prize for Avon Valley Runners.
The ladies race saw Denise Grech of Calne Running Club take victory clocking 31:40 nearly 90 seconds ahead of Renee McGregor of Team Bath and third placed Anita Mellodew of Avon Valley Runners, who along with fourth placed Jennifer Ford and Tina Towler who claimed the 1st FV50 award made it a double team victory for the Trowbridge based club. Sarah Wright of Bitton Road Runners claimed 1st FV40 and Dorothy Robertson of Team Bath was 1st FV60. To round off proceedings race director Darren Wrintmore of Stampede Sports accepted the ice-bucket challenge along with ladies winner, Denise Grech and Peter Veleski of Avon Valley Runners to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The next event from Stampede Sports will be the Melksham 10K on Sunday 14th September.
