150 runners lined up in near perfect conditions for the second running of the Melksham 10K.
From the start Mike Rose of Avon Valley Runners broke away from the field with Peter Nicholas of Team Bath for company and Andrew Duncan of Calne SMaRTT in pursuit.
On the second of the two flat fast laps around the town, the Team Bath runner was dropped and the Calne runner came through for second place behind the Avon Valley Runner who crossed the line first in a new personal best time of 35 minutes and 53 seconds. Coming up through the field fast was Laura MacGregor also of Avon Valley Runners, who recorded a personal best time and new club record of 36 minutes and three seconds to finish third overall and take the ladies title, with Lille Bellamy of Swindon Harriers second and unattached runner Vivian Tang in third.
Age group prizes went to: 1st MV40 – Mark Bellamy of Swindon Harriers; 1st MV50 – Simon Reeves of Avon Valley Runners; 1st MV60 – Tony Seakins of Colchester Harriers; 1st FV40 – Denise Grech of Calne Running Club; 1st FV50 – Teresa Lovern of Somer AC; 1st FV60 – Judith Wilson of Yeovil Town Road Runners.
With six runners in the top-10, Trowbridge based Avon Valley Runners took the Men’s team prize with Mike Rose, Thomas Coney, Pete Slade and Peter Veleski collecting the awards. Whilst Royal Wootton Bassett Hounds claimed the ladies team prize through Samantha Kelly, Emma Lanedon and Ellen Lovatt.
