Melksham came away from Doric Park with a 0-24 win in this local derby.
Both teams contested well in the first quarter, trading possession in the search for the first points. The visitors put pressure on the home team with a ball whipped out wide outside the 22 for Matt Glover to power down the wing and chalk up the first try. Alistair Smith adding the extras. The game was evenly contested until just before half time when Trowbridge coughed up a penalty for Smith to take the points.
On the restart, despite the home team mounting attacks, they couldn’t puncture the Melksham defence. The visitors kicking for territory enabled Captain Nick Suter to drive through off the back of a scrum to get their second. Smith taking the conversion points.
Trowbridge were undaunted and continued to attack but the next foray into their half was rewarded with more points for the visitors with a powerful carry over the line from Ollie Cooper, Smith striking for the extras.
No more points came as Melksham worked for the bonus point score denied by the home defence and control in the failing daylight. Man of the match for Melksham Nial Cooper.
