The Manor School held a special charity day in support of the family members of those who serve in the Armed Forces On Friday 14th October.
This year, Red, White & Blue Day, a national fundraising campaign for schools, remembered key First World War events which took place during the summer of 1916.
Red, White & Blue Day is run annually by the UK’s three service charities; ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, and The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.
So far more than 750,000 pupils have taken part and £260,000 has been raised by the campaign since it was started in 2012.
Kerry Haines, headteacher at The Manor School, said, “We have supported Red, White & Blue Day for several years now. The day allows the children to raise money for a worthy cause whilst learning about our armed services and the sacrifices they have made, both historically and currently. It is important that children not only understand how our armed forces defend the UK but also the impact on their families.”
Patty Wallis, project manager for Red, White & Blue Day comments, “This year we looked back at the events that shaped the summer of 1916, in particular the Battle of the Somme and the Battle of Jutland. The Manor School was really supportive of the day, with special lessons that taught all about the terrible events of 1916. So many sacrifices were made that day and it’s a fitting tribute that The Manor School and many hundreds of other schools throughout the country, remembered them this year.”
